It should open as normal along with the relevant Projects. Upon restart, open Visual Studio 2017 and then load the Solution you were trying to open.
You should automatically get a message to restart your machine. Once the download and installation is complete, your PC/Laptop will require a Restart. Apologies I could not take a screenshot of that process. On both occasions the downloaded size was around 450 MB. This should open another window where I believe some packages are downloaded and installed. Under Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools -> Click on 'More' and select 'Repair' option. This will open the Installer, and you should see two products in the Installed section - Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools and Microsoft Visual Studio. Right Click on this line and click 'Change'. Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Featuresįind Microsoft Visual Studio Installer in the list of programs installed on your PC/Laptop.
I followed the steps below which resolved my issue and Visual Studio recognised the Solution and SSIS Projects. I am using Visual Studio Community 2017 with SSDT for Visual Studio 15.6.0. You may have to repeat these steps when installed additional named instances of SQL Server 2017.I had the same issue on two separate occasions.
Note: If you don't have Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable installed at all, just install it from one of the above links, and retry installing SQL Server. They are a little hard to find, so here are the direct links: then reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x86) and (圆4).Uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x86) and (圆4),.Solution 1: Install SQL Server first before installing Visual Studio 2017.
This Microsoft Support article presents their explanation of the problem, and their recommended workarounds. The problem is that Visual Studio 2017 installs the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x86) and (圆4) and the SQL Server installation tries to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributables, which it can't because the SQL Server installation doesn't allow you to install an older version with the newer version installed. I experienced this problem as well with SQL Server 2017 Developer and it appears to be just bad planning on the part of the SQL Server installation package people.
